The Historic Schoolmaster’s House, circa 1818, is a former tutoring home for Empire Loyalist families in the 1830s, we are ideally situated at the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake Wine country. Our B&B has been exquisitely and faithfully restored, one of the earliest nineteenth century Niagara-on-the-Lake Bed and Breakfasts. In addition to the lovely suites, enjoy our beautiful perennial gardens, including three pergolas, Koi Pond, and stream.
Elsie Mae and Jason are the proud owners of this Ontario heritage home. We invite you to explore our Niagara-on-the-Lake B&B and spend some time with us.
Proud member of the Niagara on the Lake Bed & Breakfast Association.

Elsie Mae was an awesome host, helping me plan an anniversary weekend with my family, for my brother and his wife's anniversary! We all LOVED it. The rooms were lovely, breakfast was perfect and the gardens were a perfect escape for the 6 if us each evening, to relax and chat.Delightful host and setting!
Room was beautiful, quiet, spacious, bed comfortable, gardens in full bloom. Breakfast was very good and we met some wonderful guests by sitting together at the dining room table. Elsie Mae was a charming host and very helpful to make local recommendations. Had not stayed here before but would consider for future visits. Anon.NOTL Overnight
Pros: The rooms were clean and spacious. I loved the fireplace in the living room. Liked that there was a separate sitting room to watch Tv and then the bed
Cons: Nothing to improve our stay was just perfect!
Location: Great local restaurants. Wine tours and walking tours are near by.
My husband and I stayed at the Schoolmaster's House for a weekend get away and had a most relaxing time. Elsie Mae the owner is extremely hospitable and helpful and can recommend good restaurants for lunch or dinner. As well as great local walking tours to join. The breakfast was just incredible! Lots of coffee, fresh orange juice and home made raspberry French Toast with the most delicious cinnamon honey. On the property there are several small gardens with seating areas to enjoy a coffee and the newspaper or your book outside. Her landscaping is truly impressive. She really goes out of her way to ensure your stay is perfect. I would highly recommend this bed and breakfast. We plan to return. Thank you Elsie Mae. Claire, TorontoFantastic Weekend Get Away
Old B&B with loads of character and very charming and welcoming hosts. Excellent breakfasts. MarkBrilliant B&B
Under new ownership, this lovely, long-time B&B is a great place to stay in Niagara on the Lake. We spent one night in the second-story Hearth room, which has a very comfortable bed, was spotlessly clean, roomy and beautifully decorated in the traditional style. Quiet even though facing a street. We entered the home to find the fresh smell of lavender, and our bathroom, with antique tub, had lavender products and soaps--a nice touch. The home has a nice garden area with plenty of seating where we had a peaceful evening picnic. Parking is provided and it's easy access to the main Queen Street with restaurants and shops. We enjoyed swimming in Lake Ontario at the beach right in town. We did drive to the main area of Queen Street, however, but it can be walkable in about 10-15 minutes. Being on a side street, I felt this place would not get noise from evening crowds and I was right. Owner Elsie Mae cooked us a gourmet breakfast of pancakes with fruit, bacon and yogurt parfait with her own rhubarb & strawberry topping. Breakfast is at 9 a.m., although coffee is available earlier. Just be aware there is no elevator and stairs are narrow. She has a small well-behaved dog in the house that you may see from time to time. This was a nice, feel-right-at-home place to stay and a great base for Niagara on the Lake. DebbieVery comfortable base for Niagara on the Lake
Great location off a low traffic side street, but close to the lake and town restaurants and shops. Loved the beautiful garden and quiet places to ponder life... Great breakfast and conversations with other guests. EvaRomantic layover on the way to Toronto
Elsie-Mae is a wonderful hostess. We stayed in the upstairs Gardenview room - true to its name! The house is lovely, and the gardens are absolutely beautiful. Our room was clean and the bed and pillows super comfortable. The breakfast that Elsie-Mae prepared was divine. Extremely filling, flavourful and absolutely divine. The other guests share the table with you as well, which is a great experience. I would stay here again, no hesitation!Stunning Gardens, Incredible Breakfast
