The Historic Schoolmaster’s House, circa 1818, is a former tutoring home for Empire Loyalist families in the 1830s, we are ideally situated at the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake Wine country. Our B&B has been exquisitely and faithfully restored, one of the earliest nineteenth century Niagara-on-the-Lake Bed and Breakfasts. In addition to the lovely suites, enjoy our beautiful perennial gardens, including three pergolas, Koi Pond, and stream.

Elsie Mae and Jason are the proud owners of this Ontario heritage home. We invite you to explore our Niagara-on-the-Lake B&B and spend some time with us.

Proud member of the Niagara on the Lake Bed & Breakfast Association.

  • My husband booked this B&B for two nights in April. It was absolutely lovely, the bedrooms are all individually decorated and super lovely. The location is perfect and idyllic. The breakfast looked incredible but unfortunately I was super ill and unable to eat but my husband said it was lovely. The owners are absolutely lovely and couldn't make you feel any more welcome. This is perfect for couples and families too. We will be back with our children next time.

    The perfect B&B
  • Elsie Mae is a wonderful hostess and provides great breakfasts. The house is 200 years old with beautiful gardens. Our room was large and very comfortable. The location is good - it's a 15-20 minute walk to the center of town. You can get discounts (even some free passes) for winery tours and Elsie Mae can help with recommendations for local activities. You can't go wrong here.

    What a great place
  • In every way, a lovely experience... historic home, beautiful garden, excellent breakfasts augmented by delightful company, AND it's in the lovely Niagara-On-the- Lake, home of the Shaw Festival's wonderful theatre experiences. What more can one ask?

I wish I were on my way back, now!
  • Everything was perfect! The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, and both breakfasts homemade and delicious. The garden was relaxing to sit in both morning and evening, and our hosts were very helpful with recommendations for both dining and activities in the area. My husband and I could not have asked for any more. R

Fantastic facility from top to bottom!
  • Excellent breakfast, augmented by dynamic conversation.  I could have stayed longer, and would have been happier.  M

    Could have stayed longer
  • Dear Elsie Mae: Thank you so very much for being such a great help to your guests in the Hearth (room).  We have loved being here and have appreciated your kindness in sharing your lovely breakfasts (with the special requests of Steve!)  : )  We wish you a "Happy Holiday" and will hope another stay here in our future in 2018.  With our thanks C&S

    Thank you
  • Breakfast was amazing, we had wine in the garden the previous evening - overall a wonderful experience. Restaurant recommendation was excellent. D

    We’re coming back!
  • What a great weekend in NOTL. I stayed at the Schoolmaster's House with my three adult kids and Elsie Mae made our trip extra special. I had unexpected changes to my reservation just two days prior to arrival and she was very accommodating, even meeting us for a later than anticipated check-in. She showed us around her beautiful B and B and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. The unique room we reserved included a living room area, two bedrooms and a private bath - perfect for the four of us. Our taste buds were extremely happy with the breakfast each morning and we were impressed that some ingredients came directly from her garden. The downtown area is only a couple blocks away making the entire area easily walkable. The wine tour she recommended (Grape Escapes) picked us up and dropped us off at her front door and was just a perfect way to experience the wine in this area. We would absolutely stay here again when we come back. Thanks Elsie Mae and say hi to Piper!

Weekend in Niagara on the Lake
  • Great accommodation for our get together. Private sitting area, delicious breakfasts, beautiful gardens to relax in, premium linens, knowledgeable hostess with great recommendations. House located near theatres in old town.

    Four friends retreat.
  • We were warmly welcomed by Elsie Mae and Piper. After she gave us a tour of her home and gardens, she escorted us to our room. We were very pleased with our spacious and well-decorated suite and large private bathroom. Elsie Mae is very attentive. Water, coffee, lavender toiletries, and even a black "makeup" facecloth were provided. Our request for a gluten free meal was fulfilled. The breakfast was tasty, filling, and beautifully presented. Elsie Mae aims to please. The house is within walking distance of the downtown. We felt pampered and would definitely return again.

    A relaxing getaway.
